Stihl built the MS 162 to get yard and light jobsite work done without fuss. It’s small, light, and gutsy — a 30.1 cc two-stroke that actually cuts when you ask it to, yet won’t wear you out hauling it around. The Master Control Lever puts choke, start and stop on one hand motion so you don’t mess with knobs when your hands are dirty. The saw comes set up for a 16" bar and Stihl’s low-kickback PICCO Micro chain so you get fast, smooth cuts and less kickback than old full-chisel chains. The side-access chain tensioner and translucent fuel tank mean fewer trips back to the truck and faster field fixes; the anti-vibration system keeps your hands from going numb on long jobs. Safety’s covered with the Quickstop® chain brake and front/rear hand guards. If you want a small saw that starts easier, stays balanced, and won’t surprise you under load, this is it.
The MS 162 is tuned for homeowner and light-contractor work: limbing, pruning, firewood and small cleanups. It uses a Picco Micro low-profile chain (3/8" pitch, .043" gauge, 55 drive links) that’s kinder to vibration and keeps the cut narrow so the saw feels faster and uses less horsepower. Stihl recommends specific 16" bar and PMM3 chain part numbers for best fit and lowest kickback. For fuel and warranty care, use fuel with no more than 10% ethanol and follow the operator manual.
